Building for Reconstruction :An information centre for rebuilding in the aftermath of the Gorkha earthquake in Nepal
Description
In April 2015, Nepal was struck by a devastating earthquake. The ensuing reconstruction process has suffered from alack of finance, adequate manpower and knowledge of earth quake-specific construction techniques. These concerns are further exacerbated by a lack of information sharing between stakeholders, emphasizing the need for a place where knowledge and resources are stored and made accessible. My project is an information centre meant to address these concerns, to educate and to provide help to the local community in their reconstruction process. The project investigates how the function of public space in Nepal, local climatic design solutions and local building techniques, combined with features of traditional Nepalese architecture, can be employed in the design of a public building.
