Lo og Le i Berlevåg-Leeward; designing in a remote and extreme context
Description
In Berlevåg the dependency of a quay and a safe port is articulated by their history of building breakwaters. This project use the quay where Hurtigruten arrives twice a day as site for a restaurant, and the breakwater protecting the port as site for public space and a sauna. These destinations invite tourist ashore at the quay and expands the surface where the tourist and local can meet. Creating shelter in the middle of the activity on the quay. Connecting the quay to the village centre by lighting existing paths, and a pedestrian bridge. Designing with a consideration of where you will be sheltered or exposed to wind and weather, and the views of the landscape.
