Once, a fortified island in the middle of the Danube River. Now, a dispersed landscape. What remains of Ada Kaleh is an encyclopedia of stories, testimonies, photographs and a diaspora of artifacts that migrated when it was submerged. The project acknowledges the disappearance of an island as a tangible landscape and explores different means to promote it as a purely cultural landscape. They vary from descriptive to performative, from the scale of an exhibition to the scale of large architectural and landscape proposals. This investigation can be regarded as an intentional act of building cultural heritage.
