Sounds to Signalize is an interaction design project exploring the use of sound and how to communicate and manage alarms on a ship’s control bridge. The project aims to investigate the current use of alarms on a ship and design new concepts for using and communicating the alarms. Well-functioning ship operations require efficient communication between humans and machines and clear, direct information is key to a safe operation. Alarms can be annoying and hard to distinguish and lead to increased stress and difficulty in an already complicated situation. The proposal is a Bridge Alarm Management system with a set of interfaces and sounds designed to assist the operators on the bridge in managing alarms both auditory and visually. The interfaces are designed for different user scenarios, which provide the user with the necessary information in the given situation.en_US
