dc.description	The diploma investigates how the public library function can meet societies needs for people with practical knowledge and physical skills through introducing a workshops program in combination with other library services. Fredrikstad, being both a city with a proud industrial history and a city where the existing library services need revitalization, serves as a case study. Through times practical knowledge has been tought from master to student, it has very rarely been written down. The society today is dependant on this, and people who work in the field has a sence of pride in their craft. The library is a place to share and gain knowledge, but it is only applicable to theoretical and digital knowledge today. Slowly it has started towards the practical side with their small work-shop spaces, but by really implementing the workshop into the library, the practical knowledge will be more accessible than ever. And this is sorely needed when people are encouraged to take higher education, and not focus on this practical side of the society. This project works as a library branch to the main library of Fredrikstad, where this branch focuses on practical knowledge and social gain. A wood workshop and building hall facilitates for the more noisy and bigger projects on the ground floor, and a textile and multiuse artspace facilitates the more lighter crafts on the first floor. All the spaces in the building relates to the climatized courtyard that can adapt to the recent activity. As a base it works as a makeshop where children can test and make things, a social workshop for adults where ideas and knowledge can be shared and materials can be bought, and general social space. With this branch extention, the original library can get a foot closer to the city center and take a bigger part in the population of Fredrikstad.	en_US
