The concept of duality is recognized to be relevant today, when complex and contradictory situations pose no simple solutions. Duality is referred to as the quality or state of having two different or opposite parts or elements. The project discusses an abandoned site by the train lines in Oslo; Gamlebyen, intentionally generated through the application of the concept of duality; old/new, public/private, street/yard. The topic of duality is especially relevant for the design of residential spaces in urban areas, as time comes present throughout the growth of cities and aging buildings. This diploma finalizes in a residential building presenting dualities that can be lived and experienced in daily life by its residence and visitor of the public. The building is an inter-play and tension of contradictions and oppositions.
