Beskrivelse
Due to Norway’s mountainous landscape, we have an extensive network of both roads and small airports connecting cities. We are the ones travelling the most by air travel domestically compared to other countries. Cheap airfares have made us more flexible and our world smaller. Nevertheless, they have also made us responsible for releasing tremendous amounts of greenhouse gasses. In a time where global warming and climate change is on the agenda, it’s perhaps time to look at the alternatives? On the other hand, snow-capped mountainous terrain, deep blue fjords, lush valleys, wild and untouched nature, cold winters and mild summers make Norway to what it is.However, we believe that this challenging nature is exactly what would make Norwegian high-speed rail into more than just a transport leg, making for one of the most scenic rail experiences in the world. With the objective to frame and encapsulate the bypassing nature, this project aims to create a whole new experience. Through a systemic design approach and extensive field research, we have created a train where the rail journey is in focus. All while catering to the needs of a universal target group within three different zones: Immersive, Productive and Essential. By reinventing the role of the employees and the layout of the train we were able to create a more personal and engaging experience for all. The outcome of centralising facilities and service eliminates transport in the length of the train, resulting in a single coach experience for all activities including dining, seating, and viewing.
