Beskrivelse
This diploma seeks to explore the potential to preserve and re-use existing barn structures through minimal architectural interventions. The barns all over the Norwegian countryside reveal a rich agricultural and historical heritage. Sadly, the rate of decay in both used and abandoned barns is increasing, due to costs of maintenance and preservation. The programme is developed through a concept of “minimal luxury”, enabling an exploration of the existing structure and character of the barns without necessitating complete refurbishment and climatic control. I use the term "minimal luxury" to describe a moment when you have a good snack, find a good camping spot, take a quick bath in a lake, or tuck into a warm sleeping bag. My approach focuses on translations from drawing to building: exploring the sense of a real scale, materialism and detailing.
